  • At Brotherton and Byram CP Academy, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of all our children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver quality in-house  PE sessions.

We expect to receive £8,550 for the year 2016-17. This is to benefit every child in our school. We currently have 157 children on roll from age 4 to age 11 years.

    Sports funding 2016 to 2017

  • From Sept 2014 to March 2015 the school was awarded £5031 from the government as designated sports funding.

So far we have used our money to:

    • Employ the specialist Sports coach Steven Jeff, making an immediate impact of the quality of coaching delivered and offering CPD opportunities for teachers to work alongside.
    • In partnership with Sherburn High School and the other primary schools within STAR learning alliance, the Sports premium pays for the services of a Schools Sports Co-ordinator. Andy Jackson arranges tournaments and fixtures between the cluster primaries. We feel it is important that children who are more able in sport are given the chance to participate against others of a similar ability and potential. A full calendar of events is scheduled for the year, involving some events at Sherburn High , enhancing Y6/7 transition, as well as events being held at the various schools in the cluster.
    • Continue to offer the opportunity for all our Y4 children to learn to ski at Escape in Castleford following the four week ‘Recreational skiiers’ award scheme
    • Provide all new pupils in the school with a first PE kit of black shorts and white t shirts.
  • This year our school has received £8500 from the Government as designated sports funding.

So far we have used our money to:

    • Provide every child in our school with a PE kit – white t-shirt and black shorts.
    • Provide the support and expertise of a sports coach to enhance the quality not only of PE provision but also offer quality Professional Development to all staff
    • Provided cover to enable our children to compete against other schools in handball and dodge ball.
    • Buy into a Cluster Sports Coordinator with a group of local schools to organise opportunities and competitions allowing our children the chance to compete and play matches and tournaments against each other
    • Targeted every non swimmer in Y5 and Y6 and provided 6 taught sessions at the local pool
    • Enabling every Y4 child in our school (committed for the next 5 years) the opportunity to learn to SKI. At the local indoor ski slope at Castleford our children will undertake 4 instructed lessons to enable them to be qualified recreational skiers.
